Ayurveda 101 articulate course design
Project Premise
I developed an interactive online course using Articulate Rise, aimed at introducing learners to the fundamental concepts of Ayurveda, specifically focusing on the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The doshas help students identify their specific body type and tailor their meals based on their body. The course was designed to educate participants about the characteristics of each dosha, their influence on health and well-being, and dietary recommendations for achieving balance. I used the ADDIE learning framework for my design.
analysis
instructional analysis
I broke down the necessary learning material for the course to understand the structure of the course I would offer. The main goal was for the learner to understand the best diet for their body type based on Ayurveda.
Learner analysis
I learned about my target audience from interviewing those around me. The target audience were those interested in wholistic medicine, yoga, spirituality, and mindfulness. These included those who frequented the temple, went to yoga retreats, and were regulars at Houston’s Bhakti Urban Farm (the farm offers occasional classes on Ayurveda). I asked them questions such as:
- What do you know about Ayurveda?
- How interested are you in wholistic medicine from a scale of 1 to 10?
- What would you like to learn about Ayurveda that you currently do not know?
This helped me understand if they were indeed my target audience and if so what type of information would I need to add to the course without overwhelming the learner.
Design
Learning objectives for the course included:
- To provide a clear understanding of Ayurveda and its principles.
- To help learners identify their own dosha body type.
- To offer practical dietary guidelines for one’s personal body type.
Key Features:
- Engaging Learning Experience: Integrated interactive elements such as quizzes and flashcards to enhance engagement and knowledge retention.
- Visual Design: Utilized a clean layout to create an inviting learning environment that reflects the holistic nature of Ayurveda.
- Assessment Tools: Included self-assessment quizzes and knowledge checks to reinforce learning and provide immediate feedback. There is an assessment at the end of each section and a final quiz at the end of the course.

Articulate Rise: Leveraged this e-learning authoring tool to create a responsive and engaging online course.
implementation
This course has not been implemented yet.
evaluation
To evaluate the outcomes of my course I would utilize Kirkpatrick’s model. Some ways I would gain more understanding to improve the course as needed include:
- Conduct a survey of learners after 2 weeks of the course to gain feedback on changes in their diet and lifestyle based on the course. (Behavior/Result)
- Collect data on what percentage of learners pass the quiz at the end of the course. (Learning)
- Ask for learner’s satisfaction of the contents of the course and if there were any subjects that they wish were explained more or less. (Reaction)
I would use the information gathered from these data points to know what is working and then iterate on the design and content.
