project
I was a UX Design Intern at Potentia Analytics, a software company in Carbondale, IL that creates software for medical companies, specifically in data analytics.
I was to create the design of a web application that allowed patients from 123 Dentistry ( a large group of dental clinics in the US and Canada) to schedule their appointments online via an application. This way, the organization could save time with calls, and the patients could view all the times available on their screen and schedule at their own convenience.
finding inspiration
I took inspiration from other scheduling apps such as Navigate and Acuity.
Acuity had a calendar that showed specific dates and then times, while Acuity focused on the week’s time. Since this was a doctor appointment app and people might schedule an appointment after months, I decided to put the whole calendar, and also to put the date and times on the side like both of the apps. That way one could see the times change as one clicks on the date.
initial sketches and ideation
I made some initial app flow diagrams and wireframes to visualize the most intuitive app flow for dentist patients.

reflections
I was not able to user test this app to gain feedback by users, which could greatly improve this app. Testing this app’s accessibility would also improve this application for those with disabilities. However, this was a great experience in learning how to communicate with developers as the lead UX Designer and to champion the importance of UX Design as part of development.
